For those who are wondering what Once Bitten Twice Shy is about, here’s a little taste…

Blurb: In the days following their kidnapping, Krissy and Derek’s rest comes to an abrupt end with one phone call. Derek’s ex-girlfriend has just arrived from England, and she wants her man back.

Aubree is not a woman who gives up easily, and it doesn’t take long for her to play dirty. The tables are turned, however, when the wolf takes offense.

Can Derek stop his canine self from hurting his former flame?

Who is the mysterious stranger on his way to Derek’s apartment?

Will Krissy and Derek ever get to lead a normal life?

Excerpt:

Thankful the blinds were up today, he had a good view up the street and noticed a tall

businesswoman who looked incredibly attractive. A few moments later, as she came closer, he realized it was Krissy. Without thinking, he smiled in pure delight He managed to resist the urge to wave, though, as he wanted Krissy’s appearance kept from Aubree until she was right with them.

“Ahem.” A little cough at his side announced Darla’s return, and she placed the plates on the table, along with a little pot of whipped cream. Derek noticed the look of daggers she gave Aubree as she straightened up and walked back toward the counter, only to bump into Krissy, who had just entered the small diner.

About time, I was about to send a search party, Derek joked across the link. Now that he knew they had such a connection, he planned on using it as much as he could. A sarcastic tilt of her head had him chuckle.

“What is so funny,” Aubree asked as she tucked into her slice of pie.

“Oh, just thinking,” Derek replied.

“Of what?” she demanded.

“Of me,” came Krissy’s voice from over Aubree’s shoulder. “Good morning, darling.” She beamed at Derek as he slid across to give her room next to him. They greeted each other with a tender kiss, slightly longer than necessary.

Pulling out of the kiss, the couple looked across the table at the intruder, who was fuming mad and it showed clearly on her red-suffused face.

“Jealousy is not a good look on you, honey,” Krissy contritely quipped, gently smiling at the woman who thought herself a competitor.

For the third time in only a few minutes Darla returned to the table with the coffee pot, a clean mug, and another plate of pie for Krissy. “Oh, thank you! Just what the doctor ordered.”

Derek silently applauded Krissy’s composure in the face of Aubree’s clear fury. “The pie is especially good today, sweetheart,” he told Krissy, winking at the pleasure on Darla’s face. Turning to Aubree he decided to make the introductions, however obvious and pointless they may be. “So, my dear, here is my former lover from England, Aubree. You know the one who stomped on my heart when it was in need of some comfort. Aubree, this is Krissy, the woman who is currently giving my heart all the tender loving care it needs, and then some.” Wrapping his arm around Krissy’s shoulders, he sighed with content.

Are you sure it’s wise to provoke her like this? Krissy asked, clearly unsure of Aubree’s reaction.

Sweetheart, if she tries anything, the wolf would strongly object. I’m not saying I would let him loose on the woman, but I’d let him show his teeth. Her chuckle was his reward and the animal howled again with delight.

Now he spends his nights slinking in humans dreams and unleashing terrors so strong it kills them so he can capture their soul for his boss. But when he’s ordered to attack the group that hunts his kind he’s enthralled by the feisty inventor he comes upon.

Eliza’s victim to Lucius in a way no others have been, a sensual dream that she can’t shake when she wakes up. When he bumps into her at the trains she’s an addiction he can’t shake. Excerpt: “I cannot do that Eliza. You lot wish to eradicate demons from the face of the earth and we have been around, just as you and every animal, for a purpose. I had every intention of sending her in circles, throwing her plans off and alerting The Alliance so they could handle it. But I will not aid in the destruction of my species as a whole.”

Her heart broke. They did need to reevaluate something but one thing was certain. If he would allow the creature to exist that was behind this, would protect her even, there was nothing left for them. She looked at the carpet, stained a vicious red from her blood and nausea swept through her. “Then you need to leave Lucius.”

“No. I will make you understand, I’m not leaving you.”

She was eerily calm as she looked up at him. “Yes Lucius you are. You crossed a line and showed me who you really are, deep down. But I’ve seen another side of you. A side that deserves to live, despite it all, because I choose to believe you will only harm those you have too until you can find a way out. I don’t even know if you will find away out. But the demon that I love would.” She hadn’t realized that she did love him until the words came out. It was natural really, that she’d finally found someone who was good for her, who made her happy and he would be a demon with a past too dark and corrupt to change.

“I love you Eliza. You have to believe me.” He sounded so different, pathetic even.

“ I do Lucius. I do not doubt anything you’ve told me. But I cannot be with you and the Alliance is coming, at least I have to hope they will be coming soon because I don’t think I will last much longer. You need to get out. You need to make sure that you keep on living. For me.” She wanted to kiss him, just one last time but she didn’t.

“Eliza I-“

“Get out. Get out now Lucius!” She shouted as best as she could and she closed her eyes, the urge to sleep was overwhelming now. She felt a shift in the room and heard him turning. Whether or not he would actually leave she’d never know. With her eyes closed her brain took over and she breathed in deeply as she surrendered to unconsciousness.

Reading and writing are her first loves but her passion for shopping, love for yummy food and her love for all her many pets. She hopes to one day help other readers fall in love with writing as she did.

Samantha Ketteman has resided in southern Illinois for 9 years, (though still claims to be

an Alabama girl), with her husband and three crazy demon children. She started reading novels at

a very young age and decided to write for herself. She is a caffeine addict, insomniac, and generally

scatterbrained most of the time. When she’s not writing, she’s getting lost in her writing. Novels are an

escape from the harsh reality of a cantankerous teenage boy and two drama queen girls.

She is the author of Aphrodite’s Secret, the first novel in The Forgotten series, as well as the

Best-seller Glimpse of Destiny, the first novel in the Xade Daniels Chronicles, and the novella, Avenging

Aphrodite’s Secret – Review

3.5 – 4 Stars

I fell in love with Samantha’s writing the moment I picked it up and started reading. I’m not usually a huge reader of Greek Mythology, but the modern spin in this story made it quite appealing to me.

This was an easy read, and by easy I don’t mean boring and quick. By easy I mean, I could see everything I read like it was right in front of my eyes. Samantha has a way of painting her story worlds and having them come across as if they are real life.

Although it was fairly predictable, I enjoyed the relationships between the characters and the way the story played out.

The main character – Kaira – who just happens to be Aphrodite’s daughter, has a sometimes sassy attitude and the banter between characters was easy to fall in with.

Kaira hasn’t led the best life to this point, and though I found the repetition of ‘stalkage’ to be a little annoying, her background was fitting with her current life.

I would have liked to have read more about Zane’s background, and I’d like to see him reconnect with family but I guess that’s what follow on stories in the series are for.

Another thing I adored about this book was the paranormal elements, though I’d love to know what other powers Kaira is in for.

The romance was sweet and simple, and just drew me into that mushy pile of goo that I always head into when reading good romance within a story. I absolutely loved that Kaira looked past Zane’s scars as if they didn’t exist.

Overall, though I would have liked to have seen more information added in to the book, I really enjoyed Aphrodite’s Secret and would love to read the rest of the series.

And that’s about all I have time for today! I hope you enjoyed learning a bit more about Samantha and Aphrodite’s Secret. If you want even more from this author, you can catch her and her works through these links:
